Music

The music department at Newport Free Grammar School is an extremely vibrant and exhilarating place to be!
The extra-curricular activities that we offer are second-to-none. Over twenty groups rehearse each week and a large number of concerts are put on every term. Our Christmas term concert is always held at The University Concert Hall in Cambridge.
The Music Department prides itself on being able to offer numerous activities outside the classroom that cater for a large range of musical tastes. Groups that operate at the moment are; a large Choir, Big Band, Brass Ensembles, Guitar Ensemble, Saxophone Group, Percussion Group, Flute Choirs, String Orchestra , Junior Saxophone Group and Clarinet Club. A number of other groups are run by the students themselves.
Every year we put on a show. Recent productions have been; West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Oh What a Lovely War, Calamity Jane, Kiss Me Kate, The Pajama Game, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Fame, Dracula Spectacula, Bugsy Malone, Anything Goes, Les Miserables, Oliver, Grease, Phantom of the Opera and Wizard of Oz.
The Music Department at Newport is very busy and places many demands upon its pupils, but through their commitment we aim to foster a sense of loyalty and to give them an experience of music in all its varied forms.
