Years 7-9
At the start of Year 7 all pupils are allocated to classes of French or German. They continue with this language until the end of Year 9.
In the January of Year 7, pupils have the choice of French, German, Italian or Latin as their second language. They then continue with this language, alongside their first language, until the end of Year 9.
At the end of Key Stage 3, all students continue with at least one language to GCSE level.
Pupils currently have 7 hours of languages a fortnight and have regular lessons in our ICT suite.
French
Throughout Years 7-9 we use the Équipe nouvelle textbooks. We study a variety of topics and lots of grammar. We use the interactive whiteboards regularly and there is contact with native French students via letters and emails.
In Year 7 there is the opportunity to go on a day trip to Boulogne and in Year 9 you can go on an exchange to France.
German
Throughout Years 7-9 we use the Echo textbooks. A variety of topics are studied and we also teach lots of useful grammar. We use the interactive whiteboards regularly and pupils often use the ICT room .
In Year 8 there is the opportunity to go on a 2 day trip to Cologne and in Year 9 you can take part in the exchange to Eckernförde.
Italian
Throughout Years 7-9 we use the Forza textbooks. Some students in Year 9 also use the Tutti Insieme books. We use the interactive whiteboards regularly and pupils often use the ICT room .
In Year 9 you can participate in the Italian exchange to Spilimbergo and Meduno in Northern Italy.
Latin
Throughout Years 7-9 we use the Cambridge Latin course. We use the interactive whiteboards regularly and pupils often use the ICT room.
Every two years there is the opportunity to participate in a Latin trip to Sorrento and Pompeii.
