TEACHER OF PSYCHOLOGY : Part time - Up to 0.75
Salary: Main Teachers’ Scale (a TLR allowance may be available for an appropriate candidate)
We seek to appoint a well-qualified teacher of psychology in this successful and oversubscribed mixed comprehensive school. There will be the opportunity to teach psychology up to A level standard. This would be an excellent opportunity in a well resourced, lively and supportive department.
The subject is a popular choice in the sixth form with two sets at both AS and A2 level, following the OCR specification. Many students go on to study psychology at degree level.
Newport Free Grammar School is a high achieving and aspirational school which places a strong emphasis on student learning. Our 2012 Ofsted inspection noted that “the school provides a good curriculum that is appropriate to students’ aspirations and abilities.” In 2012 we achieved 78% 5A*-C at GCSE and we aim to keep improving.
At A-Level our results were excellent, with an overall pass rate of 98.5% (an improvement on last year). The A*-B pass rate was 37.4% and the A*-C pass rate 71.4% (both up from last year). Pleasingly, students exceeded their externally set targets by some distance, particularly at the top end of the ability range.
The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced CRB check will be carried out for the successful candidate.
