Nepal 2012

Open to all Years 10,11 and 12 Students

Newport Free Grammar School is delighted to announce that an exciting expedition to Nepal is planned for Summer 2012.
 
This promises to be a highly educational and exhilarating 17-day expedition. The expedition starts in the ancient city temples of Kathmandu, before driving West to the foothills of the stunning Annapurna Himalayan range.  It is here that we undertake a magnificent trek through the Himalayas, the highest mountain range on earth.
 
Sadly, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and the team will then work on a vital community project. This may involve improving primary schools, building school equipment, and installing solar-powered lighting for impoverished community schools. This will especially aim to improve women's education and livelihoods.
 
The expedition will give all participants a real sense of adventure, and a unique opportunity to learn about leadership, teamwork, self-reliance and decision-making – all crucial life-skills in this uncertain world.  DofE participants can also qualify for 3 Sections of their Gold DofE Award from this expedition.
There will be a parents’ evening with a presentation and briefing from the organisers, Far Frontiers Expeditions, on Tuesday 18th January 2011 at 7.00 p.m. in the school hall  Both parents and students are invited to attend.  There will be time for parents and students to ask questions at the end of the presentation.  Please complete and return the attached slip by 12th January 2011 if you are interested in attending this presentation
